The lawyer of the union activist and political prisoner Palina Sharenda-Panasyiusband Andrei. For four months now, the political prisoner is unable see her lawyer, although he submitted a relevant request long ago.
In March this year, Sharenda Panasiuk appealed to Alaiksander Lukashenka, seeking a pardon. She disclosed this information in her interview to the State-run TV channel Balrus-1.
Her husband Andrei responded to her statement.
“Regardless of the reports that are being spread today by Lukashist propaganda channels, it is important to understand that Paulina is fighting for her life. The Lukashist propaganda statements are best left ignored”, wrote Palina’s husband on his Facebook page.
Besides, on March 21, 2024, it became known that the UN Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women issued a demand to Belarus to take urgent measures to ensure legal defense for Palina Sharenda-Panasiuk. This is the first action of this kind in cases against Belarus.
You will remember that in June 2021 the Moskovsky District Court of the town of Brest sentenced Palina Sharenda-Panasiuk to two years in a general regime penal colony; she had been accused of committing an act of violence against a police officer, insulting a representative of the authorities, and insulting the President.
In April 2022, the court extended Palina’s term by 1 year for being allegedly deliberate in her defiance of requirements of her penitentiary’s administration; and in October 2023 she was sentenced to yet another year behind bars under the same charges.
