A solidarity rally with Ukraine took place on Bremen’s Market Square to mark the anniversary of Russia’s full-scale aggression. Russia’s war against Ukraine has now entered its fourth year, and on this day residents, activists, and representatives of various organisations gathered in the city centre to support Ukrainians who continue to resist.

The rally was attended by Salidarnast trade union activists, German politicians, and Christian Wechselbaum, Chair of the Bremen regional branch of the German Trade Union Confederation (DGB). The event was supported by several German political parties — the SPD, CDU, Greens, and FDP — as well as more than ten civil society organisations. Speakers stressed that solidarity with Ukraine is not only about humanitarian assistance, but also about defending European security, democracy, and human rights.
Participants spoke about different forms of support for Ukraine over recent years — from fundraising and humanitarian initiatives to political and civic engagement.
From the very first days of the invasion, Belarus’ independent trade union movement condemned the aggression and has called for an end to the war, the withdrawal of Russian troops, and accountability for crimes committed against civilians.
The participation of trade union activists in the rally reflected a shared position: war and repression are closely interconnected, and solidarity among working people across countries remains one of the key tools of resistance to authoritarianism and violence.
