Today is the birthday of Aliaksandr Mishuk, deputy chairman of the BNP, chairman of the BNP local organisation at Belaruskali, who has been recognised by a number of human rights organisations as a political prisoner.
On 25 May 2022 he was detained after a search in his office and house and placed in a detention centre. Aliaksandr was sentenced to two and a half years in prison. The charge was based on part 1 of Article 361 of the Criminal Code (Calls for the application of restrictive measures (sanctions), other actions aimed at harming the national security of the Republic of Belarus).
On 15 November 2022 Judge of Minsk Regional Court Viktorya Paleshchuk found Aliaksandr guilty and sentenced him to two years and six months of imprisonment in a colony of general regime. Consideration of the appeal in the Supreme Court of the Republic of Belarus yielded nothing.
On 2 February 2023 the KGB included Aliaksandr in the list of "persons involved in terrorist activities".
As part of the #WeStandBYyou solidarity campaign, launched by Libereco, Aliaksandr Mishuk got a symbolic godfather. He was André Gatalin (Groupe Rassemblement des démocrates, progressistes et indépendants), a member of the Senate of the French Republic.
The political prisoner is serving his sentence in Mahiliou penal colony No. 15. His wife Aliaksandr and two children are waiting for his release.
