On January 23rd , Alena Vinakurava, former activist of the Belarusian Independent Trade Union Palimir and participant of the strike committee at Naftan in Navapolatsk, was detained during mass arrests. As a result of mass detentions carried out by the KGB, more than 80 people were detained.
Alena's detention was reported by her daughter on Facebook as follows: "Detained for 72 hours. She will serve her sentence in the temporary detention center in Vitsebsk.
Alena Vinakurava has been repeatedly detained allegedly for participation in an unauthorized mass event. And recently, on December 14, 2023, she was sentenced to 15 days of arrest under Article 19.11 of the KaOP (distribution of extremist materials), and then added another 15 days.
Alena Vinakurava worked for 31 years at the Palymir company in Navapolatsk, most recently as a quality controller in workshop 604. After that she joined the strike at Naftan:
- After spending 24 hours in the TDF, I realized that working at a state enterprise was not much different from being in prison. I decided not to support the regime anymore, paying for it with my taxes," commented Alena on her decision.
Today is Alena's birthday.
