On August 13, at the age of 77, our brother and friend, member of the Free Metalworkers’ Union (SPM) and editor of the union bulletin Workers’ Solidarity, Mikalai Galko, passed away.

Mikalai was born on January 14, 1948. He dedicated more than half a century of his life to journalism. He served as editor-in-chief of Selskaya Gazeta and Sovetskaya Belorussiya, and in 1995–1996 led the country’s largest newspaper, Narodnaya Gazeta. He took up this role after the dismissal of editor-in-chief Iosif Seredich by order of Alexander Lukashenko.
In recent years, Mikalai Galko worked with the Free Metalworkers’ Union, editing the Workers’ Solidarity bulletin, supporting the trade union movement not only through his words but also through his personal commitment. His honesty, love for Belarus, professionalism, and loyalty to his principles inspired us.
We will remember him as a man of great culture, deep intellect, and unwavering dedication to the ideals of justice.
