It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Alena Yaskova—the National Legal Adviser of the Belarusian Congress of Democratic Trade Unions (BKDP), one of the founders of BKDP’s women’s direction, and a person of exceptional professional integrity and human dignity.

Alena Yaskova was also the last Chair of the women’s party “Nadzheya”. For many years, she consistently defended workers’ rights and human dignity. Her principled stance, precision, and inner culture made her one of Belarus’s most respected experts in the field of labour relations.
Among her most widely known cases were the defence of the interests of workers at the “Granit” enterprise in 2012, as well as legal defence and support for workers during the strike movement in 2020. She professionally and persistently represented workers’ interests before state institutions and in courts, and prepared documents and materials for the International Labour Organization (ILO) and the International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC).
Alena Yaskova’s passing is a profound loss for the independent trade union movement and for all those she supported in the most difficult moments. We mourn together with her family, friends, colleagues, and everyone who had the honour to work and struggle alongside her.
May her memory be eternal.
