The campaign "Trade Union Activism Is Not Extremism!"

Updated: 1 day ago

On March 1, 2025, the international campaign "Trade Union Activism Is Not Extremism!" was launched to draw attention to the systematic repression of independent trade unions in Belarus. The campaign is organized by the Belarusian Congress of Democratic Trade Unions (BKDP) and the association Salidarnast.

The initiative marks the anniversary of the massive crackdown on the trade union movement in 2022, when the Belarusian authorities dissolved independent trade unions, arrested their leaders and categorized their activities as "extremist". To this day, dozens of trade union activists are behind bars, while hundreds of them have been arrested and tortured.

The campaign, which will run until mid-June 2025, calls on the international community to:

  • Demand the release of the trade union leaders by appealing to the Belarusian authorities and organizing solidarity actions.

  • Draw international attention to the Belarusian case by organizing and participating in initiatives and meetings.

  • Participate in the "Day of Action for Trade Union Rights and Democracy in Belarus" on April 16, 2025 to increase pressure on the regime.

You can support the campaign by recording a video message of solidarity, participating in discussions and advocating for compliance with international labor standards.

Trade union work is not a crime!
