FIDH and OMCT join the statement on the crisis of labour rights in Belarus

Two more international organisations have joined the joint statement on the systemic human rights crisis in the labour sphere in Belarus — the International Federation for Human Rights (FIDH) and the World Organisation Against Torture (OMCT).

Both organisations supported the document within the framework of the Observatory for the Protection of Human Rights Defenders — a joint programme of FIDH and OMCT aimed at protecting human rights defenders.

Their participation strengthens the international support for the statement previously issued by Belarusian and international human rights organisations, independent trade unions, and civic initiatives.

It should be recalled that on 25 May, Belarusian and international human rights organisations, independent trade unions, and civic initiatives adopted a joint statement on the systemic human rights crisis in the labour sphere in Belarus. The document speaks of the liquidation of independent trade unions, the persecution of trade union leaders and activists, the use of forced labour, discrimination, and the destruction of freedom of association as part of state policy.
