During the 356th Session of the International Labour Organization, Aliaksandr Yarashuk, Chair of the Belarusian Congress of Democratic Trade Unions (BKDP), expressed his gratitude to the Workers’ Group at the ILO and to ACTRAV for the solidarity and support shown to him during his imprisonment in Belarus.

Speaking at the session, Aliaksandr Yarashuk also called for continued international support for all trade union leaders and activists who remain behind bars in Belarus.
During the current ILO session, Aliaksandr Yarashuk met with the Workers’ Group and ILO ACTRAV, where he called attention to the continuing repression of independent trade unionists in Belarus and stressed the need for sustained international support. This remains a matter of fundamental importance, as it concerns the international response to systematic violations of freedom of association and the rights of independent trade unions in the country.

The participation of Aliaksandr Yarashuk — a former political prisoner and trade union leader — in the session carries particular significance. His voice at the ILO serves as a reminder of the ongoing repression against the independent trade union movement in Belarus and of the need to secure the release of all imprisoned trade unionists.
