18 March: Solidarity Day for Political Prisoners in Bremen

On 18 March, the International Day of Political Prisoners (also observed as a Day of Support and Solidarity with Political Prisoners), Bremen will host a solidarity action to draw attention to people worldwide who have been deprived of their liberty for political reasons.

On this day, at the Bremen Trade Union House, we will open an exhibition featuring portraits of imprisoned Belarusian trade unionists held in Belarusian prisons. Roll-up banners will be displayed in the foyer, with photographs and information documenting the repression against Belarus’s independent trade union movement.

The opening will include remarks by representatives of Belarusian and German trade unions (BKDP and DGB Bremen), a small reception, and an opportunity to meet and speak with organisers and guests. The exhibition will run for around one month, so that as many people as possible can see these faces and hear their personal stories.

We warmly invite everyone who cares to attend, show solidarity with political prisoners, and stand together in defence of human rights, workers’ rights, and trade union freedoms.
