Maksim Pazniakou, interim chairman of the Belarusian Congress of Democratic Trade Unions (BKDP), told "Svaboda" about the situation with political prisoner Vasil Berasneu, suffering from kidney failure.
"He was examined in the hospital for two days and sent back to the colony. The results were not reported. They said he would get them later, in the colony. The sources I contacted don't even know about his well-being," - Maksim Pazniakou told «Svaboda».
According to Maksim Pazniakou, Vasil Berasneu was returned to the colony in the first half of October.
The 73-year-old Berasneu has one kidney. In the pre-trial detention center the political prisoner's health problems worsened, while in colony No. 15 near Mahiliou his health condition sharply deteriorated. According to knowledgeable sources, his blood pressure increased and he began to have severe pain in his kidneys. As it became known to the human rights activists of "Viasna," Vasil Berasneu was taken from the colony in early October and placed for examination in Mahiliou regional hospital.
"The situation is critical. If the transplant is really necessary, it is necessary to ring all the bells and do it immediately. And in general, the political prisoner should be released as soon as possible, and every opportunity should be used for this purpose," said human rights activist Ihar Kazmerchak in early October.
According to Maksim Pazniakou, he does not know why Vasil Berasneu never received a kidney transplant in Mahiliou regional hospital. "My sources don't know about the diagnosis either," - Maksim Pazniakou said.
Vasil Berasneu is a leader of the Orsha REP trade union and was acting chairman of the REP trade union. The pro-factivist was detained on April 19, 2022 in a criminal case against the leaders of independent trade unions. In January this year, Minsk City Court punished the REP leaders with long prison terms. Hennadii Fedynich and Vasil Beresnev received 9 years of imprisonment each, Viachaslau Oreshka - 8 years.
