The union activist Aliaksandr Kashpul faces a potential transfer to prison

Aliaksandr is a former legal counsel of the Polymer plant owned by the Naftan company. He played an active role in the activities of his workplace union affiliated to the Belarusian Independent Union (BNP). He has a wife and two underage children.

The political prisoner was detained on September 25, 2021, in the territory of the Russian Federation and delivered to the Belarusian KGB. Last year, in the town of Homiel, he was convicted as part of the notorious case of Rabochy Rukh. Aliaksander was found guilty under Part 2 Article 295 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Belarus (CC RB) (illegal actions with relation to firearms), Part 1 Article 356 of the CC RB (high treason), and Part 3 Article 361-1 of the CC RB (creation of an extremist organisation and participation therein) and sentenced to 15 years of penal custody.


On April 10, 2024, there will be a court hearing in the town of Babruysk concerning a change in the political prisoner’s custodial control. The Judge Pavel Kartinin may decide to transfer the union activist to a prison.
