Halina Smirnova, activist of the liquidated Belarusian trade union of radioelectronic industry workers (REP), was sentenced to two years of restricted freedom.

This is reported by the human rights center Viasna. June 19, Babruisk and Babruisk courts sentenced three people under Art. 342 of the Criminal Code (active participation in group activities, grossly violating public order).

Residents of Babruisk were charged under the "people's" article for their participation in the post-election protests in Minsk in 2020. Among them is the activist of political prisoners Halina Smirnova. She was sentenced to two years of "house chemistry.

It is known that one meeting was held on the case. At it the prosecutor managed to request terms for political prisoners. Halina Smirnova had been in custody since March 24, 2023. After the verdict was pronounced, she was released from custody in the courtroom.
