Leanid Sudalenka has been behind bars for 800 days

On 18 January 2021 Leonid Sudalenka, head of Viasna's Gomel branch, was detained on his way to the office and charged with organisation and preparation of actions that grossly violate public order, and preparation and training of people to participate in such actions, as well as their financing or other material support. On 26 January, the political prisoner was transferred to Vitsba penal colony No 3.

Amnesty International believes that Leonid was convicted on entirely trumped-up charges related to peaceful protests in response to violations during the 2020 presidential election.

German Bundestag deputy Constantin von Notz became a symbolic godfather for the human rights defender.
