BNP activist sentenced to 3 years in jail

On November 24 Gomel regional court in a closed session sentenced Siarhei Sliazhou, who was accused of insulting Lukashenka (Part 1 Article 368 of the Criminal Code) and inciting other social hatred and discord (Part 1 Article 130 of the Criminal Code)

Political prisoner Siarhei Sliazhou was detained on September 29, 2021 in Zhlobin under a criminal case brought over comments in the Internet after the death of KGB officer Dzmitry Fedosiuk and IT specialist Andrei Zeltzer in a shootout in Minsk.

In mid-December 2021 it became known about Sergei’s transfer from Zhodzina prison N8 to Homel detention center N3.


He was found guilty and sentenced to imprisonment in a general regime colony for three years. The case was considered by judge Ruslan Tsaruk

In 2020 Siarhei was one of the founders of the primary trade union organization of the Belarusian Independent Trade Union at the Belarusian Metallurgical Plant in Zhlobin, which the authorities refused to register. After that, almost all trade union activists at the plant were fired.
