In its message, BKDP highlighted the enormous role “Solidarność” has played in the history of workers’ struggles and democratic movements in Europe:

Dear Brother Piotr Duda,

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

On behalf of the Belarusian Congress of Democratic Trade Unions, we warmly congratulate you on this remarkable occasion — the 45th anniversary of the founding of the trade union “Solidarność.”

Over the past decades, you have become a symbol of the steadfast will of working people and a living example of how solidarity, courage, and devotion to freedom can change the course of history. Your struggle not only opened a new path for Poland but also gave hope to millions of people in other countries, including Belarus.

We gratefully recall the visit of “Solidarność” Chairman Piotr Duda to Minsk in 2020 — a powerful gesture of support for the Belarusian democratic movement and independent trade unions. This support is especially meaningful to us today, as our Chair, Aliaksandr Yarashuk, remains imprisoned for his work in defending workers’ rights and the freedom of the Belarusian people.

Your 45-year journey is a history of courage, unity, and the triumph of human dignity. We are convinced that together, based on these values, we can build a future free from dictatorship and social injustice.

We wish you continued success, unity, and strength to remain a stronghold for the working people of Poland and an inspiration for workers across the world.

In fraternal solidarity,

Maksim Pazniakou, Acting Chair, BKDP

Siarhei Antusevich, Deputy Chair, BKDP

Founded in 1980, Polish “Solidarność” became the first independent trade union in Eastern Europe. It played a decisive role in the collapse of the totalitarian regime in Poland and in advancing democratic processes across the region.
