Since November 9, the trial in the case of Rabochy Rukh, in which ten political prisoners appear, has been held behind closed doors in the Gomel Regional Court. Aliaksandr Kapshul, like five other prisoners, are members of the Belarusian Independent Trade Union.
On December 31, Aliaksandr went on a hunger strike against violations of the law during his detention in the Gomel pre-trial detention center. The hunger strike has been going on for 41 days, with the first few days he was on a dry hunger strike.
Political prisoners are charged with treason, as well as under a number of other articles of the Criminal Code. They face up to 15 years in prison.
We remind you that Aliaksandr Kapshul was detained on the territory of the Russian Federation on September 25, 2021 and handed over to the KGB of Belarus. Earlier it was reported that he had a broken leg and an injured arm.
In addition, there was information that political prisoners intend to appeal against the decision of the KGB to recognize Rabochy Rukh as an “extremist organization”.
