May 21 is the International Day of Solidarity with Belarusian Political Prisoners. The events were held in different countries, including Bremen (Germany). The action was held by members of Salidarnast e.V. and Razam Bremen.
On May 20, they remembered their comrades in the trade union movement, those who are behind bars and sentenced by the regime to long terms of imprisonment. Postcards were made for them, on which anyone could write a message.
Imprisoned trade union leaders, like all political prisoners, were commemorated in dozens of other countries around the world. Banners with their portraits were held in Bialystok, Vilnius, Warsaw and Brussels. In Warsaw, there was a mass march demanding the release of the hostages of the Lukashenko regime from prisons.
For three years now, the human rights situation in Belarus has been terrible. Thousands of people have been jailed, tens of thousands of Belarusians were forced to leave the country because of repression. According to the data of human rights activists, during almost three years at least 4,300 people have been brought to criminal responsibility. At least 1,525 political prisoners are currently held in places of detention in terrible conditions.
